What does it take to be an ethical company? By living our purpose and staying true to our core values of integrity, respect, commitment, caring and excellence, we create an environment that supports our broad range of ethics and compliance initiatives.
In March 2016, HCSC was honored, along with 130 companies globally, as one of Ethisphere’s World’s Most Ethical Companies®. For more than 10 years, the Ethisphere® Institute has honored organizations that:
- excel in promoting ethical business standards and practices internally,
- enable managers and employees to make good choices,
- develop best practices that help shape future industry standards.
HCSC was recognized for our broad range of ethics and compliance initiatives focused on our commitment to:
- culture and governance,
- effective training and communications,
- monitoring and auditing procedures,
- risk assessment,
- social and environmental responsibility, and
- leadership endeavors to walk the talk of integrity.
Being named a World’s Most Ethical Company honors the work our employees do every day to operate with integrity in all areas of our business. It also recognizes, in part, work the Ethics and Compliance Department and Government Programs Compliance do to maintain an effective Corporate Integrity and Compliance Program Charter and Code of Business Ethics and Conduct. This work supports requirements outlined in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Federal Sentencing Guidelines as well as Chapter 9 of the Medicare Prescription Drug Manual mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. This award not only acknowledges that HCSC works to meet these legal compliance minimums, but that we go above and beyond to promote ethical business standards. This includes our ability to effectively manage risk. We need to know what could cause our members’ problems, how to keep those problems from happening and what to do if something goes wrong so we can minimize the damage. As partners helping business areas identify and mitigate ethics- and compliance-related risks, the HCSC Compliance Program will continue to provide guidance, promote ethical decision making and support ever-changing and increasingly complex regulatory compliance. We do this not to win an award, but to live HCSC’s purpose and stay true to our core values of integrity, respect, commitment, caring and excellence, a newly added core value that highlights our company’s strong work ethic.
